This Passat you activate the ABS every time you would put your foot on the break, this until the ABS, ESP and Brake light was illuminated… A quick scan revealed 00290 by using Autel MaxiSys MS908P… But, was this a sensor problem? Follow me on this article to find out what was the problem and how to resolve it.

Car model and year: Volkswagen Passat 2008

The issue:

After starting the engine,

ESP light on

ABS light on

Parking brake light on

I’ve already scanned the car, the ABS code is 00290 (left rear ABS wheel speed sensor implausible signal).

when I drive the car, one of the things I notice is as soon as I put my obviously now it doesn’t do it because there is a fault, if I clear the fault, the fault goes away, and when I drive the car as soon as I press the brake I can feel the ABS pump working and I can feel it on the pedal and I can hear it and every time you break and you carry on doing this a few times until it daily triggers the light.

What says in Autel Scanner MaxiSys MS908P, there is implausible signals, so the pump or the unit is getting a signal from the sensor. However, when you first press, if I clear the codes when I first press the brake. The unit will get the signal, something the wheel is sleeping or whatever and he’s going to obviously do what he has to do, only a few times later, because it’s always the same thing, the unit is programmed to obviously. See that something is now right and trigger the fault, and that’s the reason why it took me a little bit to make the lights come on.

I can only do next frame, anyway I took some live data and as you can see I have my front car, I can only have three, so I have my front right, speed rear left and rear right so the rear left is going to be my green and then so that should be the one that I needed to look at and as I start to go, so I was driving the car.

Start the drive. And then look at that the green line.

I think it’s quite self-explanatory what’s going on.

That sensor is breaking either that or a wiring problem, so the sensor is reading and dropped.

Reads again then drops all these is dropping.

So is dropping at a certain speed, so either we have a sense of problem or we have a wire problem, most likely this answer because otherwise wouldn’t read nothing at all I would say, but we don’t know that yet.

So my next step is going to be take the wheel out take this sensors and do an inspection and go from there really now at the moment.

I think we easily established that the problem is going to be somewhere on the signal from the sensor to the ABS or the sensor itself.

Okay guys problem found so the first thing I’ve done was obviously take the sensor off.

You can easily see that the sensor has been rubbing on the magnetic reflector ring. It’s

marks there now when I cross a magnet in front of this which I have one here.

Okay, obviously it’s too big, but I can easily make a numbers to appear on the speed of these wheel, quite erratic but doesn’t matter, it is working cable looks okay, connection looks OK.

So because of the state of this disk and in the fact I was touching what I decided to do was to put the camera, the Autel scope camera there and the hole of where the sensor is and that’s exactly what I’m going to show you now, so that’s the magnetic ring now I’m going to turn the wheel, I know the light is not brilliant, let’s see if I can be slightly different, let me actually put the phone down I can actually look at this properly.

Okay, so to start with I don’t know if you can see there is a crack where is it okay, I’ll go this way, so quite a little bit of damage in there.

oh, look at that: another crack in there, not very good, it’s a really bad, another crack right there.

And this is the worst point, look at that, so the magnetic layer look at that there is and then there’s there.

You just finished look the other way. It’s missing, you can see how bad it is. It’s completely gone.

it literally needs a new hub, a new bearing as far as I’m aware, this is attached, is one of those bearings with the reflector ring at the back, so it’s  going to need a new hub, there’s nothing else I can do, most likely still okay, so we’re gonna get a hub and when I get a hub and replace it test it.

and should be about it really I think.

Good I have the camera, otherwise it will be very difficult to spot and hold bank it would be a little bit more tricky to diagnose but they we go there, we know what the problem is now that’s going to get the parts and get these going.

And there is a brand new one, so let’s gonna crack on with this and get it replaced.

Right, caliper is out honestly this car is in need of a break job to be honest with you it’s really bad, right now we’re going to take the carrier, so we can then take the disc and then have to take the bearing.

Okay, and he was definitely a challenge to take the carrier out ready hurt myself

And funny enough I didn’t even hurt myself here, hurt myself closing the drawer on the Van, radio anyway so that’s out was definitely a challenge to take these two bolts from the carrier, the bearing I think just a spur the camera.

That we’ve seen: no rocket science.

Just come out.

so the new bearing, so just curiosity comes with a new cap comes with a new bolt so we’re not going to reuse the bolt it comes with a new bolt.

And I’m going to put everything back on, I’m not going to take you through the law, I’m just literally gonna put everything back on. I’m going to probably take the calipers give you a good clean and a little bit of Chris at least on this side because I’m touching it.

For now I’m going to put everything back on because it’s getting dark even though it might not look on the camera but it’s getting dark and I want to get things done today and tomorrow, I’ll try the car tomorrow morning, but yeah for now I’m not going to take you through anything else just put everything back on.

right, let’s go to clear these lights to start with a vision clear the car yet so I’m going to clear the lights and then we’re gonna go for a drive and fingers crossed, the problem is solved.

Okay, first thing: no lights; secondly, I definitely can see oil I can’t feel that and what you call it I can’t feel the pedal a vibrating anymore, so there is no activating the ABS, anymore, when I press the pedal which would happen like.

Even like now if I press the pedal I could feel it, it’s absolutely perfect now, no lights come back on everything’s good.

I’m just gonna turn around and load the live data from Autel MaxiSys MS908P once more, just curiosity really because I know we fixed, but just to show you guys, I’ll show you the live data just for you to see that and this is OK now, so let me just turn around here and I’ll show you.

Okay, so here we have it so real left as you can see up there is the green line, so I’m going to start to drive.

And back home and ready to move to the next, and last issue with this car, so stay tuned, but for this one guys as you’ve seen problem is fixed cars driving absolutely spot on and in the end was just that reflector ring on the bearing, sensor is OK, the sensor is the same one as before, and yeah that’s it guys, we got it fix.

What is Diesel Particulate Filter ?

Diesel particulate filters (DPF) are devices that physically capture diesel particulates to prevent their release to the atmosphere. I’m gonna give us a sign a law that says the generous BCM, the BCM is usually located in the trunk of the vehicle, so go ahead open the door on the right hand side there’s going to be a little trapdoor, go ahead open that up there’s gonna be a little black box inside that says bcm.

so as soon as you see that sign or the notice that says the generous bcm you’re gonna go ahead and unplug the cable from the bcm.

Okay, as you can see, please generalize bcm and plug the cables, you’re going to come back press OK.

Then I’m going to tell you to power on bcm, so they’re going to go back to the bcm, we’re going to connect everything up and press OK again.

Alright guys, so after you power on the bcm, we’re gonna go ahead and finish reading IMMO data as you can see, it’s almost done, it’s almost finished.

And then we’re gonna go ahead and make a dealer key alright guys after we’re done reading the IMMO data, our next step would be to make a dealer key, it’s going to ask us if we need to make a dealer key, we’re going to press yes.

And then please put a blank key in the XP400 Pro programmer keyhole and then press [OK].

Sort of finishing up that dealer key, if you have another key that you want to generate, go ahead and put it inside the xp 400 Pro slot and press yes.

The next step would be to do the “key adaptation to vehicle” what we’re gonna do is go ahead and put the key inside the ignition.

It’s going to ask how many keys we want to put into, press one.

We only have one key to do so we’re going to press OK.

So it’s telling us right now that if the vehicles a transponder and put in sequence the keys that need to be learned, so we’re gonna go ahead and put the first key and press OK.

So we’re gonna go ahead and turn off the emergency lights, you can see the currently inserted key a dear key /a locked key / a learned key, all are yes.

We’re gonna go ahead and check our key, make sure that we successfully programmed it, although the car does have a low battery, so it’s not going to start, but you will hear trying to crank up, we’re gonna go ahead and test our mode make sure it works.

How to install TIS2000 software:

TIS2000 Window XP:

*   Installed a fresh copy of Windows XP SP3. I didn’t bother with updating anything else as far as security updates to Windows or install a virus scan because this computer will never be connected to the Internet or used for anything else.2. Installed ALL the required drivers until there were no more yellow check marks in Device Manager. I failed to do this at first and caused a lot of headaches later, including a BSOD during software installation.3. If you’re using a USB to serial adapter, plug it in now and set it up. Go into Device Manager and make note of the COM port used by the adapter.3. Install the Tis2000 software from the CD included with the Tech2. During the install, it will ask you to specify the COM port. If you have a serial port on the computer, it’s probably COM 1 or use the one from the USB adapter.4. Before you can use Tis2000 with your Tech2, you have to make it “think” that there is a dongle connected that authorizes it. You can download the crack below. Follow the read me file for instructions on how to use it.

TIS2000 Windows 8 32 bit:

However, if you have a 32-bit copy of Windows 8 installed (I don’t wanna know why you do), running 16-bit applications are disabled by default. You can enable it by going to Control Panel and clicking on 16-bit Application Support then clicking Enable.

TIS2000 Windows 7 with XP Virtual PC:

For those of you with genuine copies of Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate with a multi-core processor (who doesn’t run Win7 on a multi-core these days); these versions of Windows 7 allow you to use Windows Virtual PC, which lets you virtually run Windows XP Pro without a disc or OS installation. You need to install Windows XP Mode and Windows Virtual PC in order to use it. Before you can download these updates, M$ makes you run a little .exe that checks if your OS install is legitimate. Anyway, after you get that all installed and XP Mode is booted, you can copy the OP’s cracked TIS2000.zip over to the WinXP Desktop and follow the README.txt inside to install it. TIS2000 software Window 64 bit or 32 bit:

64-bit versions of Windows contain backwards compatibility with 32-bit applications, but not with 16-bit applications. And 32-bit versions of Windows are backwards compatible with 16-bit applications. The problem with installing TIS2000 on newer machines is that, while the TIS2000 program itself is 32-bit, the installer and drivers are 16-bit. Therefore, you are able to install TIS2000 natively on ANY 32-bit Windows system. This will just work, without having to run anything in compatibility mode.

Now to the most common problem:

If you are running a 64-bit version of Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 Home Premium or lower, or ALL versions of Windows 8 and 8.1, I guess any version of Mac or Linux too, you have a couple of more involved and more risky options…

You can obtain a copy of Windows 2000 or XP Pro 32-bit. It includes two programs for making a bootable CD or USB drive. Pop the bootable device you created into your laptop, reboot to the device, then install that operating system onto a seperate partition of your hard drive, or a different hdd altogether. Or you can install Virtualbox (free software), and run the cracked Windows copy via a virtual machine… The method I took to test this was to create a separate partition on my ssd and install it there. When the computer reboots, it will ask you what OS you would like to run. Select Windows XP Pro, then continue installing TIS2000 software. If you’re gonna be writing to the main drive on your computer, I suggest first creating a bootable USB with Clonezilla on it and creating a drive backup with that http://clonezilla.org/downloads.php  …This allows you to make a complete backup image of your hard drive, and allows you to flash it back to that drive at any time. A good thing to have around anyway.

VXDIAG VCX NANO GM + TIS2000:

IT works!! ok for anyone trying to use the VXDIAG GM nano with SPS this is what you need to do (order is important):

*** please note you cannot use the VM that the VXDIAG package comes with (GDS2 VM). It’s configured in such a way it won’t work with the dongle crack and caused me a lot of head scratching to find this out.

*   Create awindowsXP 32bit VM using VMWare Player
*   Make sure you add an LPT port (set to auto, not connected on startup). It doesn’t matter if your actual PC has an LPT port or not this is needed for the dongle crack later.
*   Install VMWare tools for your VM
*   After you have the windows VM up and running install the BOSH MDI drivers found here: http://www.boschdiagnostics.com/pro/soft…-and-mdi-2(the MDI drivers on the driver disk andvxmanagerinstaller wouldn’t install on myxp32bit VM but the one from bosh does).
*   From the driver disk or from allscanner.com install the VXDIAG MDI package with pass thru driver (VXDIAG MDI manager or VXDIAG Manager

*   (files / instructionsin the updated.txt you may need to click the link more than once if you get an error when downloading)
*   Mount the tis_data_1.iso in your VM (use the virtual cdrom in vmware player and attach to iso file) this will start the auto install of the TIS2000 2007.3 software)
*   All options can be installed using the default selectionshowevermake sure you check the install checkbox above the parallel security device on the one screen.
*   After installation is complete you can extract the TIS2000DongleCrack.rar and copy the folder to the desktop of your VM
*   Go into the TIS2000DongleCrack folder locate the drivers folder and open it, run the DDINST32.EXE (if you get a registry error you didn’t install an LPT port in your VM), select Express and it should install the files then click ok / Exit to close.
*   Go back to the main TIS2000DongleCrack folder and copy SCAControlUI.exe and Id.dll to c:\Program Files\cosids\bin\ (it will prompt to replace id.dll select yes).
*   Go back to the main TIS2000DongleCrack folder into the Dongle folder and copy the 2 files in there to c:\windows\system32\ (the dongle crack is now installed)
*   Now mount the tis_data_2.iso in your VM (use the virtual cdrom in vmware player and attach to iso file) and open TIS2000 (double click the icon on your desktop) when TIS opens it will ask you if you want to upgrade click yes.
*   After the upgrade completes mount the GM-NAO-TIS200-3_2008.iso in your VM (use the virtual cdrom in vmwareplayer and attach to iso file) and open TIS2000 ( double click the icon on your desktop) when TIS opens it will ask you if you want to upgrade click yes.
*   After the upgrade completes you have successfully installed TIS2000 2008.3 and the Dongle crack, now we need to configure TIS to use the VXDIAG GM nano
*   Open TIS2000 from the icon on your desktop, select Configuration menu from the top and select IO Management.
*   Click the Driver button, click the Browse button, locate the j2534.dll file in the window and click open (installs the J2534Pass Thru Driver)
*   Now click the Add button (in IO management) enter exacly “Generic Pass Thru” in Logical Name and select “J2534Pass Thru Driver” in the Driver drop down, click OK.
*   Select Generic Pass Thru in the list and click Properties, in the Device Name drop down select VXDIAG, (ALLScanner) and click ok then click close to close IO Management.

Now TIS2000 software is installed and configured all you have to do is connect your VXDIAG device to the PC / VM. To do this first use a usb and connect it to the PC then in the VMWare player menu go in removable devices and connect the Future Devices USB to serial converter. At this step my windows install didn’t have the basic usb to serial drivers so I connected the VM to the network (if not connected use the VMWare player menu to connect the network) and windows downloaded them from the net and installed the device as com3. you are now good to go.

At this point you can now click on SPS in TIS2000 select Generic Pass Thru as your device and your good to program!!

Satisfied, VXDIAG VCX NANO GM device works as a clone to the GM MDI.
